Interested in becoming a Community Governance Committee Member

Being a Community Governance Committee Member  is an important and rewarding role.

WHY YOUR VOICE MATTERS

At Greenshaw Learning Trust, we believe there is absolutely no ceiling on what our pupils can achieve. While we are a thriving, collaborative family of schools, we deeply celebrate the unique identity and character of every individual school we serve.

THAT'S WHERE YOU COME IN

Our Community Governance Committee (CGC) model is all about local heart and real-world insight. We have stripped away the heavy, traditional demands of school governance so you can focus entirely on what matters most: the lived experience of the pupils in our schools and their community.

As an advisory body to the Board of Trustees, you won't be bogged down by statutory liabilities or dense paperwork. Instead, you will play a vital role in connecting our schools with the communities they serve, bringing valuable lived experience and local insight that helps drive meaningful school improvement.

No education experience? No Problem!

We aren't looking for a corporate resume; we are looking for perspectives from all walks of life. Whether you are a local employer, a parent, a charity worker, or simply a neighbour who cares, your unique life experience is exactly what our schools need.

YOUR IMPACT : WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

As a CGC member, you will collaborate with six other dedicated individuals (a balanced team of local community leaders, parents, and staff) to ensure our schools remain ambitious, inclusive, and deeply rooted.

You’ll have the opportunity to step into a Designated Champion Role that aligns perfectly with your personal interests or professional strengths:

  • Destinations: open doors for young people by strengthening local career links and supporting key school transitions.

  • Pupil Voice: ensure the authentic, daily experiences of children directly shape the school’s future.

  • Staff Wellbeing: keep an eye on the workplace culture, ensuring our brilliant school staff feel supported and valued.

  • Sustainability: champion environmental practices and green community initiatives within the school.

HIGH IMPACT, LOW HASSLE COMMITMENT

We know your time is precious, which is why this voluntary role is designed to fit effortlessly around your career and personal life.

  • Only three meetings a year: Governance Committee meetings face-to-face just once per term in a streamlined, efficient format.

  • See the school in action: enjoy rewarding school visits during operating hours to get real, authentic context.

  • Committee panels: participation in rewarding Trust-wide panels, minimum of 2 per year.

FULL BACKING EVERY STEP OF THE WAY

You will never have to figure it out alone. From day one, Greenshaw Learning Trust provides full, professional backing to ensure you feel confident and empowered:

  • A structured induction programme.

  • Essential safeguarding and role-specific development training.

  • Direct administrative and operational support from our dedicated GLT Governance Team.

ARE YOU READY TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

Your term of office lasts for four years – giving you a fantastic window to create a real, lasting legacy for local children. (Please note: to keep our schools safe, standard eligibility checks and an Enhanced DBS check are required).
