English as an additional language

Staff at Widden Primary School gain vast experience of supporting children who have English as an Additional Language (EAL); in January 2020, approximately 295 of our pupils (72%) were reported as mostly speaking another language at home. In reception, through a language rich environment and small group interventions, we support all children in making rapid progress in learning English.  This listening, understanding and speaking in English is very important to enable your child to achieve a good level of development in the Reception year.
