Dear children, parents and carers of Widden Primary School,
Throughout the school closure our staff will be providing work for all pupils.
Most of this work can be completed at home using the internet. Links are provided below to the learning content we are recommending.
We are providing work for Mathematics, Writing and PE in addition to specific Year Group Learning.
In addition to this, class teachers may also set additional work, tasks or projects using Purple Mash. You will need to log in regularly to access this work: https://www.purplemash.com/sch/widden
If you are unable to complete the work online and require paper copies then please inform the school by emailing your child's class teacher or phoning the school office.
Virtual Sports Day 2020
Dear parents and carers,
We have some exciting news to share with you!
As a result of COVID 19 and school closures, we are unable to host sports day in its traditional manner this year. However, we have decided to organise a virtual sports day this year.
A virtual sports day involves a range of sporting activities which requires limited resources and space. Children are able to work through a set list of 10 activities at their own pace. The rules and instructions are provided below and are simple to follow. We are able to provide a printed recording sheet from school, if required.
We are encouraging parents and carers to record their children taking part in these activities and sending them in to school so we can share the virtual success of our sports day.
The top three competitors will each win a sporting prize!
To enter, simply follow the instructions attached below and remember to record each activity ready to send them in to school.
The deadline for entries will be Tuesday 14th July 2020.
Entries will only be accepted when submitted by adults. By sharing these videos you are authorising Widden Primary School to use these videos on the school website and social media. If you do not wish for your child’s videos to be published online then please state this clearly in your email.
Well done to Mr. McGregor our first virtual sports day competitor!

For Mathematics we are recommending that children complete the daily lessons provided by White Rose Maths. Our children will be familiar with the Maths Mastery approach they encourage. Each day there will be short video explaining the learning and some problem solving and reasoning questions for the children to solve. Answers are provided.
Please click on the link below to access the daily maths lessons:
For those children who wish to complete additional learning in mathematics, please use the pdf at the bottom of this page. The document contains links to a wide variety of recommended learning platforms.
You will find these lessons on BBC Bitesize each day and on the website using the link above.
You will also find your daily worksheet and answers below.
For Literacy we are recommending the daily lessons provided by English Mastery. This scheme of work has been funded by the Department for Education and is of a high quality. We also recommend the suggested reading books listed by age and the related reading comprehension activities available on The Literacy Shed. The site is providing free temporary subscriptions. Please click on the links below to access the resources:
Each year group and/ or class will be uploading content weekly for children to complete at home. This is in addition to the daily mathematics, literacy and PE. Please ensure that you are logging on to Purple Mash regularly and completing the 2DOs.
In addition to this, there is an increasing number of free high-quality learning resources for use at home during school closures. We have been sharing these via the school's Facebook page. We kindly ask parents and carers to 'like' this page as it will be updated regularly with useful resources.
