Mathematics
The teaching and learning of mathematics at Widden is a core part of our curriculum. We aim to provide inspiring, practical, relevant and exciting learning opportunities in our maths lessons and promote maths in the wider creative curriculum.
We deliver a bespoke mathematical programme of work which is tailored to the learning needs of each class. This programme is based on the overview provided by the GLOW Maths Hub, which we are an active part of.
In order to ensure that we maintain a high degree of similarity in teaching methods and strategies, the teaching staff work from a whole school calculation policy and a whole school reasoning policy; both policies form the basis of the Widden Mathematics Strategy, which is available to download below.
We understand the need to use a broad and rich mathematical vocabulary and therefore we use a wide range of resources, schemes of work and programmes of study to support the teaching of mathematics. These include, but are not limited to: NCETM ready to progress resources, Maths No Problem, iSeeReasoning and White Rose Maths.
Furthermore, there are many additional opportunities to enjoy and explore mathematics outside of the classroom at Widden. These include practical topic lessons, highly able maths groups, maths workshops and our extra-curricular mathematics clubs. We also work with Adult Education Gloucestershire offer adult education classes for parents who would like to develop their subject knowledge in this area and are passionate about supporting their children with mathematics.
We are passionate about mathematics here at Widden Primary School and our primary aim is to continue to improve teaching and learning so that all of our children are able to make good progress in this subject.
If you would like to discuss mathematics then please speak with Sidd Baker who leads mathematics here at Widden Primary School.
