Welcome to Reception! Our Reception classes are Murphy Class with Mrs Marshall and Mrs Wathen and Donaldson Class with Miss Hemming.

Our “Marvellous Me” topic provides a gentle and nurturing introduction to school life, supporting children as they settle into their new environment, develop relationships and build a strong sense of belonging.

Children will develop their Personal, Social and Emotional Development as they learn classroom routines, become increasingly independent, express their feelings and begin to form positive relationships. Communication and Language will be supported through conversations, storytelling and sharing experiences, while Physical Development will be encouraged through movement, mark-making and every day self-care.

Across the Specific Areas, children will explore early Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design through meaningful, play-based experiences.

Most importantly, we will celebrate what makes every child unique and help them to feel happy, safe, confident and valued as they begin their school journey.

Based on our topic, we will be reading lots of books all about our emotions, feeling happy in our classrooms and building relationships with our new friends! In Literacy this term, we are reading and writing about “Our Class is a Family”, “Super Duper You”, “The Colour Monster”, “Kind”, “A Great Big Cuddle” and “When I was a child”.
