Widden Primary School

Sports Premium

In April 2013, the Government announced new funding of £150 million for physical education (PE) and sport. This funding should be used to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision.

Funding will be allocated to all primary schools and has nearly doubled in the last six years.

Schools are free to determine how best to use this funding to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision, including increasing participation in PE and sport so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performance levels they are capable of.

At our school we are using this funding to invest in a sustainable development programme.

We have four objectives:

  • To ensure that all our children are physically active on a regular basis.
  • To increase teacher confidence and skills.
  • To expand the range of after school clubs for all ages.
  • To develop and nurture talented sportsmen and women.
