Year 2
WELCOME TO YEAR 2!
This year, the children learn to develop their independence further and be more responsible as they begin their journey towards Key Stage Two. We look forward to seeing them write more stories, read more books and explore even more learning.

Summer 1
We’ve got an exciting term ahead in Year 2, packed with creativity, discovery and new challenges! In English, we’ll be diving into the story of Anna Hibiscus and using it to inspire our own stories and letter writing.
In maths, we’re exploring statistics and geometry, learning how to interpret data and understand the shapes all around us. Our science work focuses on plants, bulbs and how humans grow, with plenty of hands-on investigations to bring learning to life.
In history, we’re travelling back to the Victorian era to find out what life was like in the past, while in art, we’ll be creating beautiful natural artworks inspired by Andy Goldsworthy. Our computing lessons will turn us into digital musicians as we compose our own pieces of music using simple software.
For PSHE, we’re learning all about physical health – from exercise to healthy habits – and in RE, we’ll be exploring sacred places and why they matter to people of different faiths. Reading continues to be a big focus: children are supported with phonics at their own level and take part in whole-class reading comprehension sessions using a different exciting text each week.
PE days have now changed to Monday and Tuesday – please make sure children have the correct kit on both days.
Reading:
And finally, please continue to support your child’s learning by reading together regularly at home – it really does make a huge difference! Reading records are to be brought in daily. Please make sure that you are listening to your child read during the week and record this in their books.
Some of our children will still be cementing their phonics skills and if this is the case please help them out at home. If you would like some tips on how to support them with their phonics at home, please let any of the Year 2 Team know and we will happily help.
