Year 5
Welcome to Year 5!
Welcome to Term 5. Our topic this term is Time flies! In Science, we will be looking at reproduction of mammals and plants, while in History we will be heading back into time and learning about the Anglo Saxons and the Vikings.
This term, Year 5 will be diving into a rich and exciting curriculum packed with discovery and creativity. In History, we’ll be exploring the fascinating world of the Vikings and Anglo-Saxons—examining how these two cultures clashed, coexisted, and shaped early Britain. Science will take us on a journey through the natural world as we investigate how mammals and plants reproduce, learning about lifecycles, pollination, and more.
In English, we’ll be reading the gripping adventure Cogheart, using it as inspiration for our own writing and discussions.
Thirteen-year-old Lily Hartman always dreamed of adventure. A strong-willed girl, Lily felt
trapped in a life of Victorian stuffiness at her prim boarding school. But after her father-a
famous inventor-disappears on a routine zeppelin flight, Lily's life gets turned upside down.
Now cared for by her guardian, the heartless Madame Verdigris, Lily is quite certain that
she's being watched. Mysterious, silver-eyed men are lurking in the shadows, just waiting
for their chance to strike. But what could they possibly want from her? There are rumors,
Lily learns, that her father had invented the most valuable invention ever made-a perpetual
motion machine. But if he made such a miraculous discovery, he certainly never told Lily.
And all he left behind is a small box-with no key, no hinges. With the help of a clockmaker's
son, Robert, and her mechanimal fox, Malkin, Lily escapes London in search of the one person
who might know something about her father's disappearance-and what he left behind.
Our Reading lessons will focus on poetry, where we’ll explore different forms, language choices, and the emotions poems can evoke. In Art, we’ll step into the world of Vincent van Gogh, studying his unique style and creating artwork inspired by his masterpieces. Meanwhile, in Maths, we’ll be sharpening our skills with decimal places, learning how to calculate, compare, and apply them in real-life contexts.
It’s set to be a dynamic and engaging term filled with learning, creativity, and curiosity!
