Term 5 - Ancient Islamic Civilisation

This term our topic is the Ancient Islamic Civilisation. In History, the children will be comparing capital cities from an Ancient Islamic State and Europe in the year 900AD, investigating significant buildings and their importance as well as identifying what the Ancient Islamic Civilisation has left behind.

Our book for this term will be 'The Whale'

by Vita Murrow and Illustrated by Ethan Murrow.

Useful Information

P.E will happen two days a week for both classes: on Monday (netball) and Tuesday (tennis).

Children should wear P.E kit (white t-shirt and black tracksuit or leggings), green jumper if it is cold) on P.E days.

Children should also bring a water bottle to school so that they do not have to leave a lesson when they get thirsty.

Homework

Children will be provided with weekly homework. This may include maths based activities, writing activities and/or other activities relating to the curriculum. Home reading books are also being sent home. Please return these as soon as they have been read (alongside a comment on their home reading record) so that a new book can be given out. It is expected that parents or carers will read with their children at least 3 times a week for roughly 10 minutes.

Year 4 Red Bus Book Challenge

Below is the Year 4 book Red Bus challenge. We'd love to see the children each read as many of these as they can during the year. This is a challenge and there will be prizes for those who read the most!  The books have been carefully chosen because we love them, and we are sure the children will too!

All books are available in school but due to having limited numbers of some we do ask that any which are borrowed are returned quickly. We also encourage all home books to be returned on a daily basis so that we can keep a record of how much your child is reading at home. Any reading you can do with them really does help them so much.

Other Information

Please ensure that children do not bring unnecessary items to school. Ideally, children should only bring the following items to school:

Coat

Fruit or vegetable for healthy snack at play time

Lunch box

Water bottle

Home reading book
